Tazim Elkington is many things. Among them are a leadership trainer, hypnotherapist, talk and regression therapist, speaker, poet, and writer. However, all of these labels seem like futile attempts to describe someone so profound. What she truly is, is an evolutionary disruptor. This means that she crumples up all ‘normative’ assumptions that society has ingrained in our minds, and instead of propagating her alternative vision of life for people to leech off of, she hands us the keys and empowers us to form our own perceptions. In this contemporary world that Tazim lives in, there is no predetermined script regarding the way people ‘should’ live. Rather, everyone is the driver of their own lives and she is the guide who helps decrypt individual maps.
Why is she known as The Indian Black Butterfly? ‘Indian’ because that is her heritage and ‘Black’ because she was born and raised in Kenya, but let’s take a closer look at Butterfly.’ Symbolically speaking. in many cultures butterflies represent “spiritual rebirth, transformation, creativity, endless potential, vibrant joy, change, [and] ascension..” while the actuality of this can be contested, it is a metaphorically accurate depiction of Tazim. Having experienced many difficulties in her life, she was able to dive deep within herself and nurture resilience by embracing her truest self. As you can imagine, breaking through the societal chains that have been woven into our minds is not an easy task, but with patience, accountability, and humility she was able to metamorphosize into the vibrant woman she is today.
Her gift of intuition and clairvoyance is something she has always had, even as a child. Nourishing this incredible aptitude for seeing past people’s exteriors has been the greatest gift she has been able to give people who have sought her help. Having a conversation with Tazim is like looking into a mirror and watching all of the masks that you have fashioned and worn for days, months, and years, be peeled back, slowly revealing your truest self. In her space, there are no lies, excuses or facades so it would be wise to leave those at the door.
Speaking from a personal point of view, during my first session with Tazim, I instantly felt like I had just rubbed a magic lamp and a flamboyant genie appeared before me. However, instead of granting insane wishes, I was presented with a chance to evolve into the most intricately real version of myself. All of my preconceived notions of therapy and especially hypnotherapy were extinguished as I realised that the propaganda around these things is exaggerated and typified as taboo. Nine sessions in and I know that it is the best thing that I have done for myself.
