So many new trends showing up daily….now lets look at self-regulation! This is becoming a common phrase since covid broke out! Many are very challenged and find it very tough to self-regulate.
What does it mean to self-regulate? It is the capacity to control, maintain one’s behavior and emotions and have some sense of decorum and balance.
Nowadays, this is not so easy. It seems people get triggered easily, emotions are running high, challenges are around every corner, emotional and psychological band-width is at its narrowest.
Well here is something that may help. When one realizes that Emotions last 30-90 seconds….one can learn to observe their feelings as they kick-in and breath as they pass. It works similar for thoughts as we observe what the mind is saying and then very quickly the next thought and the next.
When we stop holding on to our emotions which are triggered by memory and the same with our thoughts, we can learn to be more present which makes us more aware.
This would be the kindest form of self-regulation when one has the capacity, day by day, to do this gradually. It becomes an ART to manage and self-regulate!
